Description
Lotus farming is a traditional practice deeply rooted in Cambodia’s culture and economy. The lotus, with its symbolic significance of purity and enlightenment in Buddhism and cultural traditions, holds a special place in Cambodian society. Besides using the flowers for religious ceremonies, the lotus seeds and stems are culinary delights, featuring in traditional Cambodian dishes. Most of Cambodia’s lotus farms are found in the provinces of Siem Reap and Battambang where the ecosystem of the Tonlé Sap lake and its surrounding areas provide favourable conditions for the cultivation of the valued crop.
