Description
Originating in Japan, the maneki-neko is a popular symbol of good fortune. Many businesses in countries with Chinese or Japanese cultural influence place maneki-neko statues near entryways or cash registers to attract financial success. In Cambodia, the maneki-neko is known as ‘Chma Bok Dai’, which translates to ‘cat waving hand’. This illustration depicts the maneki-neko in a ‘mouk-slek’—a traditional Cambodian straw hat—and kroma in front of a background featuring a marigold pattern.
