Description
Inspired by the concept of ukiyo-e ~ pictures of the “floating world” ~ this artwork reimagines the Tonle Sap floating village of Kompong Phluk as a realm of dreamlike tranquility. Here, giant cats have claimed the architecture as their own, transforming the stilted settlement into a massive, communal cat tree. The village becomes a literal floating world ~ a sanctuary where the boundaries between the domestic and the monumental blur. To achieve an ukiyo-e aesthetic, I use a hybird technique by hand-printing each color onto separate sheets of washi paper using gouache-coated plywood, then digitally compositing them into the final work.
