Description
The second in a series of artworks created for Baray for Life, this piece moves the spotlight to the maritime activities of the Angkor Empire. While the Angkorian temple bas-reliefs remain the primary reference, I also drew from historical research on nautical technology to accurately visualize the era’s ships and boats. For history buffs, I included a unique Easter egg: observing the activity from his vantage point on the massive plank sailing ship is the Chinese emissary Zhou Daguan, whose writings remain one of the most vital records of life in Angkor.
