Description

This artwork is featured on water bottles produced by Baray for Life, a project that promotes eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics. Working with the theme of water, I planned a series of artworks depicting life in ancient Angkor, an empire intrinsically tied to its “hydraulic city” roots. Drawing heavily from temple bas-reliefs and struck by how much they resembled modern comics, I reimagine the scenes with a contemporary twist—a stylistic homage to Tintin creator Hergé. Here, a royal procession unfolds; in keeping with the slapstick energy of Hergé’s work, I depict a scene of two Cham soldiers cartoonishly fleeing from the scene rather than the grittier battles often seen in the original stone carvings.
